VBA Developer / Engineer – Excel-focused
Job description:
Tasks:
Review, analyze, and reverse-engineer existing Excel/VBA tools used by operational teams.
Create detailed technical and functional documentation, including: functional/technical descriptions, VBA code explanations, and UX notes.
Identify risks in legacy tools: security, technical debt, and performance issues.
Collaborate with operational teams and developers to validate documentation and prepare for migration.
Suggest improvements to features, workflows, and best practices within the squad.
Follow agile priorities and contribute knowledge to enrich the team backlog.
Ensure compliance with security and maintainability standards for migrated tools.
Work environment: Hands-on technical role within an IAM Technologies squad, hybrid between developer and analyst/documentalist, operating in a banking environment.
Work schedule: Day work.
Remote work: Hybrid (partly onsite, partly remote).
Technical environment: Excel VBA (macros, workflow, optimization), SQL Server (medium to advanced), agile methodologies, optional: IAM/RBAC tools, cybersecurity practices.
Expected deliverables: Documented legacy VBA tools, identified risks, validated migration plans, improved workflows, and enriched squad backlog.
Location: Brussels
Required profile:
You have 3–7 years of VBA/Excel development experience, preferably in banking, insurance, or industrial environments. You have experience reverse-engineering and documenting legacy tools and a strong interest in IAM/cybersecurity.
In order to carry out this assignment successfully, you must be proficient in:
Technologies: Excel VBA (macros, optimization), SQL Server, optional: IAM/RBAC methodologies, cybersecurity awareness.
Methodologies: Agile/Scrum, technical documentation best practices, legacy code analysis.
Business knowledge: Banking or industrial operational tools, IT access management (IAM) principles.
You are:
Analytical, precise, and detail-oriented.
Collaborative and able to communicate effectively with operational teams and squad members.
Proactive, positive, and solution-oriented.
Fluent in English; French or Dutch is a plus.
